Project 31: Aunt Cara’s Orange Scarf

Pattern: Cameo Faggot Stitch Scarf
Yarn: 3 balls of Aria Lang Yarns and 2 balls of Fiesta Veluto Colour #63
Needles: 8 mm

The weather in Perth is pretty cold late, especially late in the evening and early in the morning. The minimum temperature for the past few days has been between 2 and 3 degrees Celcius. Definitely need a scarf to keep you warm!!

Came across this pattern for the scarf, although the name of the pattern is slightly unpleasant , that shall not hinder me from knitting it up!! It actually turn out quite nice and it will be wrapped nicely and given to its intended recipient tomorrow. She told me she like warm colours so I really hope she likes this scarf!!

Yeah the name cracks me up, it is in a knitting stitch book that I have and it always makes me laugh that someone actually named a knitting stitch faggot!!!!! Did faggot have a totally different meaning years ago???

In the olden days , medieval England and even Tom Brown’s School Days, a faggot or faggots were bundles of sticks tied together, they were used to start fires in fire places. So I expect this pattern is meant to look like stacked or bundles sticks - lines with gaps between them. Faggoting was a popular edging or lacy insert for a bodice or skirt egding when I was little.
Did you use one strand of each wool? Such big needles!! I am using 3.75mm and I yearn for my tiny 2.25mm sock needles!!!
