SSK

Aaaargh!!! What a disaster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: :yuck: Stupid me!!!!!!!!!!

I’ve been doing SSK the wrong way for my shawl!!! From Knitty’s standard abbreviations, SSK is meant to be slip 2 stitches as if to knit, then knit those 2 stitches together but I’ve been slipping the stitches purl wise all this time!!!!!!!! :grr: :grr: :grr:

What should I do??????? Should I frog it and start all over??? Or do I continue to slip them purl wise or should I start slipping them knit wise??? Aaaargh!! I feel like crying now!!!! :( :( :(
Looks like I’ll probably visit the frog pond tonight :ouch: because I don’t think I can live with the mistakes!! :yell: :yell: :yell:

I just had a long hard stare at the stitch definition. I can’t seem to notice “what’s wrong” or anything “odd” with it. Therefore, I’ve decided I won’t visit the frog pond but continue to ssk purlwise. :laidback:

If you’re consistently doing it one way, then I wouldn’t worry about it if it looks alright to you. If you change back and forth and it looks funky, then frog it!

Oh yeah, if it looks alright to you then just keep doing it that way! If you do it consistently I don’t think anyone would notice the difference ;)

I’m glad you decided to keep going!

I agree: if you just keep doing it and it looks OK, then it’s a ‘Design Feature’, not a mistake!!!!!

It’s not technically a mistake really, although the leg of the stitch will look slightly different with the slip purlwise and you have to be careful on the following row that the stitch isn’t twisted over.

If you’re so inclined to get REALLY technical with your knitting, which I’d encourage everyone who wants to improve to do, check out the dicussion on this link.

But most of all, just keep doing it the same way all through the shawl, the difference is so tiny it’ll be impossible to tell.

hehehe oh no! *hugs you* Nevermind!! Only you, and any VERY picky VERY observant lace knitters will notice! So stick with your method and trust in yourself - if it looks fine and you like it, it’s PERFECT!! You’re making the pattern your own and that’s awesome :) Keep on keeping on! See you soon hopefully!! xoxo

If you don’t see any difference, just carry on. I don’t think it will change the look of your shawl. Relax & enjoy your knitting!
