I actually finished knitting this shawl last Tuesday but it has been raining every single day, making it hard to take any photos due to lack of sunlight. I’m also quite surprised that it only took me about 15 days to finish it? But of course, the next two days were spent blocking the shawl and it was like magic!! One minute it’s just a lump of yarn and next minute, “poof”!!! A gorgeous shawl!!! The only hard bit was blocking it. I don’t really enjoy the process of blocking. It took quite awhile, threading a fish line on the top of the shawl so that it is straight and the pinning down the points. It was tedious. Maybe because I didn’t have a lace blocking kit. I wonder if I should I invest in a set?
I learned a few new tricks while knitting this shawl. If you noticed, I didn’t do the nupps. Instead, I replaced the nupps with beads instead!! Much much prettier!! I was a bit hesitant about my colour choice on the red beads as I was afraid it might be too contrasting but I’m really liking the result. By the way, I knitted this shawl as a wedding gift. She doesn’t know about it and is not a knitter herself. I’m really hoping that she will like it.
Pattern: Swallowtail Shawl by Evelyn A. Clark
Yarn: ColourMart Silk 32/120NM DK weight in Platinum
Needles: 5 mm and 6mm
To tell you the truth, when I finished knitting this shawl, I was quite sad because it was a bit hard to give it away as I fell in love with the shawl
. DH said I should knit another one for myself. We shall see how it goes
. Anyway, from now onwards, I think I will bead every single shawl that I knit since they do look so much prettier with beads
.
Things has been pretty quiet lately and nothing much is happening. Just the same old routine day in day out. Last Saturday, my church held a “Worker’s Night”. All those who have been helping out in the church in different ministries were invited and since the dress code is “Formal”, I got to dress up a little bit. Nothing too fancy, but I always like to keep it simple and sweet
. Just a plain white top, a pink skirt, pink shawl (hand knitted by me) and of course a pair of pink shoes.
One of the ladies told me I reminded them of the girl in Legally Blonde. Obviously I do not look like her at all. It’s just the PINK!! They reckon the only thing missing was a little dog by my side
. Maybe I should have brought Coco along??

Oh the shawl looks so fantastic – I would have left the nupps off too – beading instead is a great idea!! Your friend is very lucky.

The shawl is gorgeous & I love the beads – a great idea to replace nupps which I don’t like. Blocking is a little tedious & I don’t like the blocking wires as they are stiff & hard to thread thro’.

Hey Michelle, how did you figure out how many beads you would need? I’m about to start beading mine and don’t know how many to get.

Hi Bells,
As I’ve already given the shawl to my friend, I’m unable to tell you exactly how many beads I’ve used. However, looking at the picture, I might have used about 220 beads and I followed the pattern as it is. Meaning I only did 14 repeats
Hope that helps.
